Frequently Asked Questions
A little more about what we do, how we work and the thinking behind Sage7.
What is a fandom-first creative studio and consultancy?
It’s a business that specialises in the relationship between culture, fandom and commercial growth.
Sage7 helps rights-holders, talent and IP owners understand and grow their audiences, while helping brands find authentic ways to participate in sport, music, gaming and entertainment.
Being fandom-first means understanding what makes people care and using that knowledge to create work that delivers for businesses and audiences alike.
Who does Sage7 work with?
We work with the people who shape culture and the businesses that want to be part of it.
That includes sports teams, rights-holders, film studios, streamers, record labels, talent, IP owners and investors looking to grow the value of their audiences and properties.
We also work with commercial brands exploring opportunities in music, sport, gaming and entertainment, whether through sponsorships, talent collaborations, creative partnerships or cultural activations.
Our team can work directly with clients or alongside their existing agencies and internal teams.
What’s the difference between an audience and a fandom?
An audience pays attention. A fandom cares enough to participate.
Followers, viewers, listeners and ticket buyers tell you how many people you’re reaching. Fandom is about the emotional connections, shared identities and communities that make people care more deeply.
Fans create content, develop rituals, bring other people in and help shape the culture around what they love. A fandom shows in what people do when nobody has asked them to.
Commercially, that distinction matters. Attention can be fleeting, but strong fan relationships can support long-term loyalty, audience growth and valuable new opportunities.
How do you grow and monetise a fanbase?
Start by understanding who your fans actually are. Every fandom contains different segments, with different motivations, behaviours and expectations.
We help businesses uncover those differences and identify opportunities to reach new audiences, strengthen fan relationships and generate revenue through content, products, partnerships and experiences.
How do you grow the commercial value of entertainment IP?
Strong entertainment IP can generate revenue well beyond its original format, through new audiences, content, licensing, products, partnerships and live experiences.
We help rights-holders and IP owners identify where that potential exists and develop strategies and creative ideas to unlock it, while protecting the fan relationships that make the property valuable in the first place.
How can a business activate around a major sporting event without official sponsorship rights?
Start with the fans, not the sponsorship inventory.
Official partners buy access to the event and its associated rights. But fan culture extends far beyond the official assets: watch parties, local venues, creators, rituals and the communities that bring an event to life.
There are opportunities for businesses to participate in that wider culture through content, partnerships, experiences and products, provided they have something relevant to offer.
The challenge is finding a credible role without implying an official association or infringing protected rights. We can help you work that out.
How do you develop a cultural partnership strategy?
We look at what the business is trying to achieve, which audiences it wants to reach and where it has a credible role to play.
Then we explore the cultural spaces, talent, rights-holders and communities that could help create that connection.
The result might be a sponsorship, talent collaboration, creative partnership or cultural activation, designed to deliver commercial value while giving fans something worthwhile in return.
How can a brand create meaningful fan experiences?
Start by understanding what fans value and what would genuinely bring them closer to the people, properties or communities they care about.
We develop creative campaigns, sponsorship activations, content and live experiences that give fans a reason to participate, while helping businesses achieve their commercial objectives.
What is cultural intelligence?
Cultural intelligence is the process of understanding the behaviours, communities, conversations and shifts that shape culture, and what those developments could mean for a business.
It draws on research, social listening, audience analysis and expert interpretation to identify patterns, emerging movements and opportunities that traditional marketing metrics might miss.
At Sage7, we’re interested in more than documenting what’s happening. We want to understand why it’s happening, whether it’s likely to matter and what a business could do with that knowledge.
How do you measure the health of a fandom?
Follower counts, impressions and engagement figures can show the scale and activity of an audience, but they don’t tell the whole story.
Our proprietary Fandom Formula™ examines four dimensions of fandom: emotion, identity, community and participation.
Seeqr Fandom Pulse applies this methodology to measure fandom health, track changes in fan behaviour and identify emerging risks and commercial opportunities.
What is Seeqr, and how is it different from social listening?
Seeqr is Sage7’s proprietary cultural intelligence platform, developed entirely in-house.
It combines AI analysis with expert strategic interpretation to understand audience behaviour, track fandom health and identify emerging cultural trends, risks and commercial opportunities.
Traditional social listening is primarily concerned with monitoring and analysing online conversations. Seeqr goes further by interpreting those signals through a cultural and commercial lens, including audience segments, community dynamics and opportunities for growth.
It has two products: Fandom Pulse, which monitors the health and behaviour of a specific fandom, and Culture Radar, which tracks emerging cultural trends and community shifts.
Can we hire Sage7 for a single project or an ongoing partnership?
Both.
We deliver standalone projects across cultural research, fandom strategy, creative development, playbooks and workshops.
We also provide ongoing strategic consultancy and recurring intelligence through Seeqr subscriptions, with consultancy support included.
How do we get started?
Tell us what you’re trying to do.
You don’t need a fully developed brief. You might have a specific project in mind, an audience challenge you’re struggling to solve or an opportunity you’d like to explore.
We’ll arrange an initial conversation to understand what you’re looking for and discuss how Sage7 could help.
